Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given has signed a five-year contract at Newcastle United.

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given has signed a five-year contract at Newcastle United.

Given, who is on his way to the World Cup, has committed his long-term future to the club.

The 26-year-old Lifford man, in Dublin preparing for the Republic's friendly against Nigeria tonight, added: "I am delighted to be signing the new contract with the club. Newcastle United are going in the right direction and it's something I definitely want to be a part of.''

England World Cup hopeful Kieron Dyer has also agreed a new four-year contract at Newcastle.

The former Ipswich midfielder, who hopes to recover from a knee injury in time for the World Cup, has put pen to paper on a new deal to quash persistent talk of a move away from St James' Park.
