The England skipper has been undergoing intensive treatment on his broken foot in recent weeks in a bid to make Sven-Goran Eriksson's final squad for the tournament in Japan and Korea.

England are now just four weeks away from their opening game against Sweden on June 2 - and the United boss thinks the 27-year-old could be ready in a week and a half.

He said: "We think he will be 100 per cent to play in the World Cup.

"He is not quite there but in 10 days he will be OK," he added in The Mail on Sunday.
