World Cup: Scholl to miss World Cup

German striker Memhet Scholl will not be travelling to the World Cup this summer despite making his comeback from injury over the weekend.

The Bayern Munich forward informed manager Bertie Vogts of his decision earlier today.

Scholl has missed most of this season through injury, he's picked up ankle, foot and back problems along the way and despite playing 70 mins at the weekend for his club he has decided against bidding for a place in the squad.

Germany have won the World Cup on seven occasions and are in the same group as the Rep Of Ireland, Cameroon and Saudi Arabia for this summers event. The Republic play Germany on June 5.
