Phil Thompson wants Liverpool's clash with Blackburn at Anfield moved to May 8, the same night Manchester United and Arsenal go head-to-head at Old Trafford.

Liverpool are scheduled to face Rovers on March 5 but Thompson said: "It would give an unfair advantage to Arsenal and Manchester United if they know our result, so I hope we can reorganise the match.

"We are asking the powers that be to look carefully at the situation. It would be the right decision in the interest of fair play to have the games on the same night.

"Even for neutrals it would make for an exciting night and if TV get involved it will be beneficial for everyone to screen both games.

"Everyone is gripped by the title race and the whole country is interested in what happens. I hope common sense prevails," the Reds assistant manager told the club's official website.
