Premiership: No McAteer for Sunderland

Jason McAteer has been added to Sunderland’s injury list for tomorrow’s game with West Ham at Upton Park.

Jason McAteer has been added to Sunderland’s injury list for tomorrow’s game with West Ham at Upton Park.

McAteer picked up a groin strain training with the Republic of Ireland ahead of the midweek international friendly against America, and, although a scan has failed to reveal any damage, he has been ruled out.

Paul Thirlwell and David Bellion contest the vacancy on the right side of midfield.

Skipper Michael Gray is again ruled out with a back problem and Cameroon international Patrick Mboma has failed to recover from a knee injury.

Striker Kevin Phillips (groin) and McAteer's international teammate Niall Quinn (neck) will play through the pain barrier as the Black Cats struggle for Premiership safety.

Team (from): Sorensen, Williams, McCartney, Craddock, Bjorklund, Thirlwell, Reyna, McCann, Kilbane, Quinn, Phillips, Macho, Haas, Bellion, Kyle, Clark, Butler.
