Premiership: I want to stay at Newcastle - Dyer

Kieron Dyer intends to sign a new contract at Newcastle before the World Cup.

Kieron Dyer intends to sign a new contract at Newcastle before the World Cup.

He wants to pledge his long-term future to the club - with a likely wage increase taking him to £50,000 (€80,000)-a-week.

Dyer has two years of his current deal remaining but wants to stay on because of his rapport with Bobby Robson.

He said: "The chairman was on the phone to my agent and a new deal should hopefully be sorted before the World Cup - then I can hopefully go and play a major part for England.

"The manager has said he didn't just want to make me a better footballer, he wanted to make me a better person.

"I've said many times that he is like my second dad. I owe him a great deal. There's talk of a new contract and it should hopefully be signed soon.

"One of the reasons is because of him. He's just a legend."
