Premiership: Gunners back at top table

Arsenal 2, Tottenham 1(full-time)

Arsenal held their nerve amid the maelstrom of a frenetic north London derby and a controversial penalty, converted by former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham, to keep their title campaign on track.

Having taken the lead through Fredrik Ljungberg, the Gunners were rocked on their heels when referee Mark Halsey awarded a penalty with nine minutes left for an innocuous challenge by David Seaman on Gus Poyet.

However, Arsenal fought back and won a spot-kick of their own just three minutes later when Thierry Henry was wrestled to the ground, with Lauren duly rolling home the ball to ensure his team returned to the top of the table.

Campbell lost his cool when he was kicked in the head by Sheringham as he stooped to clear the ball amid a frenetic final few minutes.

Tottenham duly launched a late assault but this time Arsenal managed to hold firm and referee Halsey did not intervene again.
