eircom League: Final played over two legs
The eircom League Cup Final between Limerick FC and Derry City will be played over two legs on Saturday next, April 6 in Jackman Park, Limerick and Thursday April 11 in the Brandywell, Derry.
The match in Limerick on Saturday kicks off at 5.00pm to avoid clashing with the televised France v Ireland rugby international.
This will be the biggest match in Limerick for several years and for Limerick FC, who finished bottom of the First Division on goal difference this season the League Cup Final offers an opportunity to win their first silverware since winning the League Cup in 1993.
For Derry City, a fifth place finish in the Premier League this season was not enough to offer European competition so the League Cup is of considerable importance as a consolation. Derry's last trophy was the FAI CUp in 1995.
The second leg in the Brandywell on Thursday next will go to extra time and penalties if required. The winner of the League Cup receives the Trophy and €10,000 in prize money. The runner-up receives €5,000.
