Premiership: Foxes announce new chairman and manager

Leicester today made a double change at the top with Martin George replacing John Elsom as chairman on the day that Micky Adams was confirmed as the new manager of the Foxes.

George is returning as chairman for a second spell and he was at the helm when Martin O’Neill was made manager in 1995.

Now he has opted to return with Elsom standing aside after City endured a disastrous season which has left them doomed to relegation from the Premiership.

He will form a new partnership with Adams who has taken over from Dave Bassett to become City’s third manager of the current campaign.

Adams came to Filbert Street as Bassett’s number two in October on the understanding he would eventually take charge of team affairs.

That has now happened sooner than expected with Bassett moving into a director of football role.

Elsom was involved in a bloody off-the-field battle two years ago with the so-called ‘Gang of Four’ to wrest control of the club.

He won that fight after O’Neill, now at Celtic, pledged his support to Elsom but now he is making way for George although he will continue as a member of the board.
