World Cup: Wanchope could miss finals

Manchester City striker Paulo Wanchope has been ruled out for the rest of the season and could miss the World Cup.

The Costa Rica international returned to training for the first time in four weeks on Tuesday but suffered a recurrence of a knee injury and will now visit a specialist in Colorado this weekend to learn the extent of the problem.

Wanchope has twice undergone surgery on the knee Kevin Keegan told the club's official website: "His season with us is over. But we hope and pray that it is something minor put right quickly so that Paulo can feature in the World Cup.

"Paulo is a big star in Costa Rica and it will be a huge blow if he missed out. Hopefully it will not come to that.

"He has been fantastic for us this season and he deserves to display his talents on the biggest stage of all."
