Soccer: Real Madrid court Michael Owen

Real Madrid president Florentine Perez has expressed an interest in signing England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen.

"Owen can be one of the world’s great players and the best play for Real Madrid," he told the News of the World.

Owen’s former Anfield teammate Steve McManaman is already at the Bernabeu.

Pervez added: "Our strategy at this club is to incorporate one of the world’s top players every year but we won’t make a decision before the World Cup."
