Panathinaikos FC leapt back into contention in Group C with a 2-0 win against AC Sparta Prague at the Letná stadium.

The breakthrough in the Group C game came on 39 minutes when Giorgios Karagounis ran on to Nikos Liberopoulos's clever pass and shot under the body of Sparta goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The goal was the Greek side's first in the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

A 71st-minute strike from Michael Konstantinou wrapped up the points for Panathinaikos before the late sending-off of Tomá Hubschman for a professional foul on Robert Jarni rubbed salt in Sparta’s wounds.
