Premiership: Matthaus linked with Villa job
Former Bayern Munich and Germany skipper Lothar Matthaus claims he has been offered the chance to take over at Aston Villa.
The 40-year-old is currently coaching Austrian club Rapid Vienna, who are ninth in the max.bundesliga.
"Aston Villa have asked me to become their manager," Matthaus said.
"All I can say is I have a contract with my present club."
However, he added: "I have always had a wish to manage a club in England."
Matthaus captained his country to victory in the 1990 World Cup and was twice named World Footballer of the Year.
John Gregory left Villa Park last week after a dispute with chairman Doug Ellis.
