Nationwide: Bury chairman quits

Bury chairman Terry Robinson has resigned due to the impending takeover of the struggling English Second Division club.

A Manchester-based consortium is set to take charge of the Gigg Lane club from majority shareholder Hugh Eaves.

‘‘The last two-and-a-half years have been a very difficult period,’’ Robinson said.

‘‘It will be better for new leadership to come in and start with a clean slate. I have been privileged to have been associated with the club but it has now reached the stage for me to go.

‘‘The purchase of the Eaves shares is now imminent and I feel I can do no more.’’
