Manchester United are not in negotiations with Independiente for the transfer of Diego Forlan.

The players representative, Pinas Zahavi, admitted to having met with the club’s chief executive Peter Kenyon in London last month but did not discuss the talented young Urugwayin native

"It is very simple, I know nothing of a transfer for Diego Forlan.

"It is true I was in England and had dinner with Peter Kenyon (United chief executive) but I can tell you the name Forlan was not mentioned once."

A club source had claimed on Century Radio, that the Premiership champions were in the final stages of contract negotiations with the young South American.

The 22-year-old has been a fixture in the Independiente team for the previous three seasons, and finished the last campaign as the second top scorer with 11 goals.

The player has caught the eye of Manchester United chief scout Martin Ferguson, brother of manager Sir Alex, who has been impressed by him every time he has been to South America.

Forlan`s performances in the Apertura has also attracted the attentions of other Premiership sides Liverpool and West Ham, as well as Lazio, but no deal is imminent.
