Soccer: Wembley named as preferred site for national stadium

Wembley has been named as the preferred site for the new national stadium.

Wembley has been named as the preferred site for the new national stadium.

The announcement has been made by the British Football Association chief executive Adam Crozier.

Years of bickering and in-fighting led to the near-collapse of the national stadium project.

It was followed by a six-month review which has ended with the FA, Sport England and the British government deciding to go with an amended design of Wembley.

British Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Tessa Jowell told the Commons that the FA's preference for a national stadium was Wembley.
