Michael Owen missed out on the chance to score his 100th goal for Liverpool as he was ruled out of the club's game at Chelsea.

The striker was left out of the squad as a precautionary move over his hamstring problems.

Owen did not even travel to Stamford Bridge, where Premiership leaders Liverpool have not won any of their previous 11 league games.

That left Jari Litmanen partnering Emile Heskey up front, with Bernard Diomede the only likely substitute available.
