Michael Holt put holders St Patrick's Atheltic safely through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup with a second half winner at the Showgrounds.

Holt connected with Kevin Doyle's cross from the end line on 57 minutes to beat Danny O'Leary in the Rovers goal with a weakly hit shot from close range.

O'Leary had been Rovers' hero in a one-sided first half, saving a 13th minute penalty from Sean Mannion while Ger McCarthy and Robbie McGuinness

shaved the woodwork for a virtual reserve St Pat's team.
