Soccer: UEFA to restructure Champions League

UEFA are to abandon the second group phase in future Champions League seasons the European governing body’s director general Gerhard Aigner has revealed.

Aigner accepted that there were too many games in the tournament under its current structure and revealed that changes could be made from the 2003-04 season.
