Champions League: Defiant Giggs ready for revenge

Ryan Giggs has sliced through the gloom hanging over Manchester United by insisting they can beat Bayern Munich and go on to win the Champions League.

Despite United's troubles, Giggs is only interested in the positives rather than the negatives and he claims the Reds are as good as any team in Europe.

He feels United can defeat the European Cup holders in the Olympic Stadium and make teams fear them again.

"Player for player we feel we have as good a team as anyone in Europe and we've proved that," said a defiant Giggs.

"We can win this match and we can win the trophy. If we work hard and produce a performance then we can beat anyone in Europe home or away.

"We can win in Munich and make people sit up and fear us. We didn't perform away last year, but this year we have the confidence to come to somewhere like Munich and get a result.

"Our performances have improved away from home. They are definitely better than last season and away from home we look more solid.

"We are not as vulnerable as we were. We take control of the game now, which is what the manager wants."

Giggs claims the memory of last season's exit against Bayern will only make the United players even more determined.

"We want to wipe away the memory of that quarter-final defeat," said the Welsh international.

"Bayern are strong - there's no question about that. They've been there, seen it, done it, but we still believe we're capable of winning over here."
