Ryan Giggs has recovered from his hamstring injury to give troubled Manchester United a welcome boost.

Giggs has reported no ill effects after making his comeback at Barnsley last night in Eric Winstanley’s testimonial.

Giggs, who has missed United’s last three games, played the first half of the match at Oakwell and was replaced by Bojan Djordjic at the interval.

The Welsh international is now clear to face Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday and, more importantly, Bayern Munich next Tuesday in United’s opening match in the Champions League second phase.

Meanwhile, Roy Keane is still having tests at United to see if he needs an operation on his injured knee.

It is feared Keane will require surgery after he was forced to pull out of the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-off second leg against Iran on Thursday.

There has still been no official word from Old Trafford and Keane’s representative Michael Kennedy said: ‘‘He’s having treatment and we must await the outcome of that treatment.’’
