Manchester United have refused to comment on reports that Paul Scholes failed to turn up for Monday night’s Worthington Cup clash with Arsenal.

Scholes reportedly refused to travel to Highbury with the rest of the squad, which was mainly composed of reserve players because the first team had played a game against Liverpool the previous morning.

The 26-year-old midfielder did not feature in the starting-11 or on the bench, despite the fact that he was only used as a substitute in the Liverpool game.

Scholes started that game on the bench after being dropped by manager Alex Ferguson, a move that could have sparked his reported no-show the following the night.
