Premiership: Zidane link tempts Vieira
Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has admitted he is tempted by the prospect of playing for Real Madrid alongside Zinedine Zidane.
The France World Cup star was linked with a move to the Primera Liga champions over the summer and reports from Spain suggest that Zidane is pushing the club to make a move for his international team-mate.
‘‘He is an extraordinary player and if he speaks well about me it’s because he likes the way I play,’’ Vieira said.
The 25-year-old, who moved to Highbury from AC Milan in August 1996, refused to rule out the possibility that he will link up with Zidane at the Bernabeu in the future.
He said: ‘‘You never know, why not? I’m not thinking about it at the moment but it could be.’’
Vieira has established himself as Zidane’s right-hand man in the French midfield.
But the Highbury star, who picked out Zidane and Real striker Raul as his favourites to win next month’s World player of the year award, will not be drawn into speculation on his transfer value.
‘‘I’ve no idea how much I would be worth,’’ he said.
‘‘Those are things that the presidents have to talk about.’’
