Soccer: World Cup play-off to be over two legs
FIFA has confirmed that Ireland's World Cup play-off will be decided over two legs, ending speculation that the tie could have been decided by one game at a neutral venue.
An FAI delegation has been meeting with soccer's world governing body in Prague. The delegation was told that the first leg of the play-offs will be played at Lansdowne Road on Saturday, November 10th.
However, we will have to wait another eight days before we find out if the second leg will be played in Asia or at a neutral venue. This will depend on who our opposition turns out to be, and the security situation of our opponents.
We will find out on Friday of next week, who the two countries in the Asian play-off will be and FIFA says it will assess the situation further at that stage, with contingency plans to be put in place if necessary.
The FAI and FIFA are to remain in constant contact to review the security situation.
