Champions League: United and Olympiakos scoreless at the interval
Olympiakos 0, Man Utd 0 (half time)
Olympiakos are continuing to demonstrate that the Greeks do not fear English opposition as they hold the visitors scoreless at half time.
The game had no sooner kicked off than French international Christian Karembeu had won a free kick off Paul Scholes.
Denis Irwin left the pitch on nine minutes as he stopped a shot from Stylianos Giannakopoulos and had to leave the field for lengthy treatment.
Scholes began to drop back and leave Van Nistelrooy at the top end as a solitary attacker.
The Greeks went close on the quarter hour as a free kick dropped onto the head of Giannakopoulos who glanced it a fraction too high.
David Beckham - England’s hero against Greece on Saturday - began to come into the fray more but on the other wing Ryan Giggs met with a wall of defenders anytime he tried to go on one of his famous runs.
In the final 10 minutes of the first half United began to look sharper up front as Veron and Giggs combined for Scholes to shoot - only for his shot to be blocked by Dimitrios Eleftheropoulos.
Juan Sebastian Veron - fresh from his flight from Paraguay - has shown no signs of jetlag as he has proven Utd’s main dangerman in the first half.
