Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher has offered to lend his services to the Irish soccer team - and write their official World Cup song.

Gallagher made his comments in an interview with English radio station Xfm.

Asked if the band would be interested in doing the official England World Cup song, Gallagher said: "Absolutely not. If we do anything, it’ll be for the Republic of Ireland.

"If anyone’s listening to this from the Irish FA, half a million and we’ll do it for you."

Gallagher said he fancied doing a solo album, but joked that he would only do so when his brother Liam, the Oasis frontman, was out of the way.

The Gallagher's grandparents hail from Co Mayo, and the brothers are regular visitors to the west of the country.
