Irish boss, Mick McCarthy, has admitted that he thinks the upcoming play-off against - as yet unknown- opponents from the Asian qualifying series will probably become a one legged affair in a neutral venue.

Irish boss, Mick McCarthy, has admitted that he thinks the upcoming play-off against - as yet unknown- opponents from the Asian qualifying series will probably become a one-legged affair in a neutral venue.

If military action occurs in the area, as now appears inevitable, McCarthy believes that FIFA will opt for one ‘winner takes all’ game in a neutral venue instead of the traditional two leg series. McCarthy says that he would prefer a two-leg tie but that politics is likely to interfere.
