Eircom League: Rovers go back to the top

Shamrock Rovers 3 Shelbourne 0

Rovers cruised back to the top of the table as Shels had two players sent-off within 39 minutes in a crazy game.

Jim Gannon was the first to see red for Shels following a dreadful challenge on Derek Tracey.

Tracey also went off injured, but his replacement Pat Deanes headed Rovers

in front on 26 minutes.

Peter Hutton then saw red for a deliberate handball as Marc Kenny tried to

chip the ball home with keeper Steve Williams down injured.

Williams was also taken off on a stretcher to hospital after his clash with Tony Grant and Marc Kenny scored from the resultant penalty.

Kenny then added the third from a stunning free-kick in first-half stoppage time.
