Two of Ireland's potential World Cup qualifier opponents have been in action against each other today.

Iran were held to a 0-0 draw against Bahrain in a World Cup qualifying match watched by 60,000 spectators. Iran lead the Asian qualifiers Group A, with eight points from four matches.

Bahrain are second with six points from four matches. Meanwhile in Group B, currently headed by China and Uzbekistan, Oman play United Arab Emirates tonight.

The runners-up from each group play off against each other for the right to face Ireland.
