World Cup: We must focus on next game - Beckham

England captain David Beckham today urged his team-mates to focus solely on Wednesday’s crucial World Cup qualifier with Albania.

Beckham admitted the players had been stunned by the reaction to their amazing 5-1 win over Germany in Munich on Saturday.

But the Manchester United star knows that win will count for little unless another win is forthcoming against Albania at St James’ Park.

"I’ve watched the video of the game three or four times," Beckham admitted.

"We’ve all been excited the way the game went but it’s important for us to focus on the game on Wednesday.

"If we don’t do the business on Wednesday the game on Saturday doesn’t mean anything.

"We realise it’s in our own hands. The euphoria has been amazing but the big game is Wednesday now.

"We knew everyone would be pleased but this has blown everyone out of the water, amazed every one of the players.

"We knew what it would be like if just beat them by one but to score five in their own backyard is amazing."

Beckham, whose participation was in doubt until the eve of the Germany game with a groin injury, believes the win has boosted the already high confidence of the squad even more.

"We’re a confident team but going over to Munich has boosted it even more,’’ Beckham said.

"There is a freshness about this team. So many want to prove themselves at this level and they’ve done that. It’s an exciting new era."
