Champions League: Arsenal should fear no-one - Davis

Former Gunners star Paul Davis believes Arsenal should not be frightened of anybody in their Champions League group.

Arsene Wenger’s men were drawn with Real Mallorca, Schalke and Panathinaikos in first round Group C.

But Davis believes his former club have the experience now to cope with the extra demands associated with European competition.

He said: ‘‘I think Arsenal will be very pleased with the draw.

‘‘There isn’t a team that really frightens us. Panathinaikos and the atmosphere their fans produce could cause a problem.

‘‘But I think Arsenal now have got to be looking to go to these places with no worries with the experience they have now.’’

Davis reckons this season is the time when the Gunners must perform on the European stage after years of underachievement.

He added: ‘‘We’ve had some desperate times in the Champions League and I think if you’re not learning there’s, something wrong, but I think these guys are learning.

‘‘They’ve bought five top players in the summer. Hopefully they’ll be settled in by the time the Champions League comes round and I’m sure they’ll be ready.

‘‘We have international players who should have no problems coping with these teams because they’ve done it at international level.’’
