Premiership: Fergie to escape FA rap
The Football Association will not be taking any action against Sir Alex Ferguson over 'illegal approach' allegations made by Jaap Stam in his autobiography.
FA spokesman Paul Newman confirmed the organisation had no jurisdiction to launch an inquiry into Stam's claims that he had met Ferguson secretly in Amsterdam before United had confirmed their interest to PSV Eindhoven.
If such a meeting was proven, United would be in contravention of the Premier League rule which forbids club officials from contacting a player directly before the selling club.
"This is a matter which has to be dealt with under Fifa regulations and not by the FA as Fifa have jurisdiction over international transfers," said Newman.
"It is up to the Dutch FA to raise the issue with Fifa on behalf of the club if they feel it is appropriate."
