Soccer: Ruud ready to make Charity Shield bow

Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to make his competitive debut for Manchester United on Sunday in the Charity Shield match against Liverpool following his £19m move from PSV Eindhoven.

However, Juan Sebastian Veron, a £28.1m recruit from Lazio, misses out as he is on international duty with Argentina.

Midfielder Nicky Butt and striker Andy Cole both missed training today but look certain to travel to Wales.

Butt has a heavy cold while Cole was sidelined because of a domestic matter.
