SPL: Skovdahl slates toothless Dons

Hearts 1-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen boss Ebbe Skovdahl bemoaned his side's lack of firepower as Hearts kick-started their league campaign with a 1-0 victory at Tynecastle.

A first-half volley from Colin Cameron was enough to secure the points and allowed Hearts to escape the memory of last week's surprise defeat at Livingston.

Skovdahl said: "Everything seemed to fall apart when we got to the last third.

"I don't want my players to shoot when others have a better opportunity to score, but I would like to see us display more bravery in that area."

Skovdahl confirmed he was busy trying to bring a new striker to Pittodrie - but was pleased with the performance of new boy Ben Thornley.

He said: "I was very pleased with his debut. He showed, especially in the first half, exactly what he's capable of.

"You could see that he tired towards the end of the match, the same as Visconti did, but it's our job to make them fit enough to last the whole game."
