Soccer: Dutch FA allows Connolly to move to Wimbledon

Irish international David Connolly has been cleared to play for Wimbledon after the Dutch FA decided that he did not breach a transfer agreement reached with AZ Alkmaar.

Irish international David Connolly has been cleared to play for Wimbledon after the Dutch FA decided that he did not breach a transfer agreement reached with AZ Alkmaar.

Connolly became embroiled in controversy when he announced the he had signed a three-year deal with Wimbledon, despite verbally agreeing to join Alkmaar.

The Dutch side asked the FA to intervene and claimed £2.8m compensation from the Irishman.

However, the FA said today that there was no legal contract between Connolly and Alkmaar, leaving him available to play for Wimbledon.
