Soccer: Foxes move for Scowcroft

Jamie Scowcroft is expected to complete his move from Ipswich to Leicester on Thursday.

Peter Taylor revealed that the £2.5m-rated striker is ready to finalise terms.

And the Foxes boss is confident of netting a player who he has admired for some time.

Taylor said: "We'll be talking to him and his agent and hopefully we'll get a few things sorted out.

"He's always been on my list. He's worked with me at England Under-21s - he's one of the best players I worked with with England Under-21s.

"He is a very intelligent player who holds the ball up well - and I think that's what we've been missing since Stan Collymore left.

"Scowcroft is nothing like SC in the respect of the way he plays - but he's very good at holding the ball up.

"I think he will be a very important signing here. I was always determined to get him and if we get him tomorrow we'll be delighted."

If Scowcroft plays he could make his debut in Saturday's friendly at Norwich - and Taylor joked: "It'll be amazing if we get him for Saturday because Norwich hate Ipswich and Norwich away will be a very good start for him!

"But I hope we get him and everything goes well for him."

Ipswich boss George Burley does not want to lose Scowcroft but is resigned to the 20-year-old leaving.

Hesaid: "It is a big disappointment for me to allow James to leave the Club but it was evident during the recent tour to Scandinavia that he was very unsettled and keen to enter into discussions with Leicester.

"I feel it is important that everybody in my squad is totally committed to the team and I made it perfectly clear to James that I was eager to keep him at the club - but unfortunately he's made his mind up to go."
