Premiership: Villa snap up Schmeichel

Aston Villa have moved swiftly to replace David James with former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

The surprise move sees the former Denmark international move to Villa Park on a one-year deal, with an option to extend that deal for a further year.

Schmeichel played his last game for United in the Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich before joining Sporting Lisbon.
