Premiership: Villa snub Angel move

Aston Villa have confirmed that they have turned down an approach from Paris St Germain for Colombian striker, Juan Pablo Angel.

Villa, who signed Angel for a club record £9.5million from River Plate last January, were offered a player-swap deal by PSG.

Club chief executive Mark Ansell said: ‘‘The facts of the matter are that we were approached by an agent to say that PSG were interested in a player-swap deal for Juan Pablo.

‘‘But we said quite categorically ‘no’ because we are not going to sell a quality player who we have only just signed. Juan Pablo is going nowhere.’’

Angel struggled to make a success of his move to Villa in the final five months of last season. He scored just one goal in 10 appearances, but he did have off-field problems after his wife and son were taken ill.
