Soccer: Veron misses out

Lazio have left passport-scandal-ridden Juan Sebastian Veron in Rome for their final game of the Italian season tomorrow.

The Argentinian midfielder was told yesterday he faces a two-year ban from Italian football, which could be extended worldwide by FIFA, after he was found to have obtained at Italian passport illegally.

And he is "psychologically shaken" according to Lazio coach Dino Zoff, with a potential £22m move to Manchester United now on the rocks.

Veron, one of the architects of Lazio’s post-Christmas revival, will not play in the game at relegation-threatened Lecce.

Third-placed Lazio must win and hope city rivals Roma lose and Juventus fail to win to successfully defend their Scudetto.
