Premiership: Veron may be set for United switch
Manchester United are reportedly set to break the British transfer record to bring Argentinian international Juan Veron to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old Lazio midfielder is reported to have completed negotiations with Sir Alex Ferguson and is set to seal a five-year deal worth around £80,000 a week in the next few days for a fee believed to be around £22m.
Should Veron move to Old Trafford, he could line up alongside David Beckham - the man who was sensationally sent off while playing for England in the 1998 World Cup finals for kicking out at his Argentinian teammate Diego Simeone.
If Veron joins United, he would become the club's second multi-million signing of the summer following the £19m capture of Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from PSV Eindhoven.
Veron said: "I have had four enjoyable years in Italy and the time is right for another challenge.
"The one place that really excites me is England. I would love to play Premiership football."
