Soccer: Celtic probing ‘incident’

Celtic have launched an investigation into an alleged incident involving team members after an awards dinner, it emerged today.

The internal probe follows reports that three players were asked to leave a Glasgow hotel after being accused of urinating in a doorway.

The alleged incident took place at the Thistle Hotel after celebrating Celtic stars gathered for the Scottish PFA’s Player of the Year dinner following their 3-0 win at Rangers on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for Celtic today said: ‘‘We have not been notified or had any complaint from the hotel.

‘‘This is a serious allegation and something that we will investigate and deal with internally depending on the findings.’’

A spokesman for the Thistle Hotel said: ‘‘This is a private matter between our guests and the hotel and we have no comment to make.’’

The allegations come in the wake of complaints from Rangers fans about the post-match behaviour of some players who were singing in the Celtic dressing room after Sunday’s match at Ibrox.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: ‘‘The alleged conduct of the Celtic players singing within the away dressing room at Ibrox was brought to the attention of Rangers and Celtic football clubs, Strathclyde Police and the Scottish Football Association.

‘‘This incident was dealt with swiftly and efficiently at the time without the need for police action.’’
