Soccer: Larsson wins top award

Henrik Larsson has been named Scottish Players' Player of the Year.

The Celtic striker scored his 50th goal of the season in the 3-0 win at Rangers before collecting the award voted for by his fellow professionals.

The Swede's goals have been a huge factor in Celtic's success this season, with the league title and the CIS Cup already secured ahead of the Scottish cup final against Hibernian next month.

Larsson said: "We had a great result this afternoon and played very well. Then to come here to pick up this award is great.

"I have to thank the lads for making it able for me to score the goals I've been scoring this season."

There was further celebration for Celtic after Larsson became the fifth successive Hoops player to win the Players' Player award when Stilian Petrov won the Young Player of the Year Trophy.

Petrov said: "Celtic played very well to win the game today.

"The supporters were happy but I am also happy because I have won the Young Player award.

"That means a lot to me and it gives me a lift to play even better next season."

Livingston striker David Bingham captured the First Division award just 24 hours after winning promotion to the SPL with his side.

Bingham said: "This is tremendous. It is the culmination of a hard season.

"We deserved to win the league and it is a crowning glory to be nominated by your fellow pros to be the best player in the division.

"There are a lot of good players in this league and we have got a few in our team. To win it is tremendous and I am actually quite choked."

Partick Thistle striker Scott McLean took the Second Division award to go alongside his championship winner's medal while Steve Hislop of East Stirling took the Division Three award
