Soccer: Fergie set to cheer City on for once

Alex Ferguson hopes rivals Manchester City can do Manchester United a favour against Arsenal tonight and help his side wrap up the Premier League title in double quick time.

United need just six more points to clinch their seventh championship in nine years following their 2-1 win over Charlton at Old Trafford.

United are on course to be crowned champions against City at Old Trafford on April 21.

City could avoid that nightmare scenario for them by beating Arsenal and so pave the way for the Reds to seal the title against Coventry on Saturday.

Ferguson is keen to wrap up the championship as soon as possible and he plans to go to Maine Road tonight to see if they can lend United a helping hand.

"I hope Manchester City do it, I really do - and they need to win," said the United manager.

"Arsenal are flying now and maybe I’ll go and see that game.

"The important thing for us was to beat Charlton because we want to get it done as quick as we can.

"We’ve two home games in which to do that and I would be disappointed if we don’t do it.

"This is a great opportunity for them."
