Soccer: Sheringham unhappy over contract offer

Teddy Sheringham's agent has added to speculation that the Manchester United striker may leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Sheringham has been offered a £1m one-year extension to his current contract, but his agent has confirmed that he wants a longer deal.

He also added that the striker would be 'an attractive proposition' for other top clubs should he reject the offer and become available for free at the end of the season.

Negotiations are currently in limbo after United made the offer last month. Sheringham has yet to get back to them.

But his agent Barry Neville said: "Nothing has been agreed, we are still talking to United.

"But ideally he would like something longer.

"He is the leading goalscorer in the country at the moment, I would imagine he would be a very attractive proposition as a free agent.

"I think ideally Teddy has always gone on the record as saying he'd like to stay at Old Trafford, but things have got to be right.

"We are just waiting for Manchester United to come back to us, but it doesn't just hinge on the length of the contract. There are other considerations, but I can't tell you what they are."

Should Sheringham decide to reject the offer then a host of clubs are sure to be interested in signing him.

West Ham, Charlton and Fulham have all already expressed an interest in the London-born striker.
