Soccer: It wasn't our greatest performance - Owen

Goal hero Michael Owen admitted that England were not at their best in their 2-1 win against Finland.

Goal hero Michael Owen admitted that England were not at their best in their 2-1 win against Finland.

Owen equalised just before half time after the Finns had taken a shock lead in the World Cup qualifier at Anfield.

England skipper David Beckham hit the winner five minutes after the break.

Man of the match Michael Owen told Sky Sports: "We did well to come back from a goal down.

"It wasn't the greatest performance but sometimes you have to churn out a result.

"The performance didn't matter; the result mattered. I have played better in the last few games for Liverpool and the rest of the lads have done better.

"My goal was important and I'm happy to have scored. It's nice when important ones go in.

"We knew they were a strong team and they gave us problems on set-pieces with their aerial power.

"We wanted to pass the ball a bit more."
