Soccer: Fitness test for Liverpool trio

Liverpool will wait for late fitness tests on Jari Litmanen, Steven Gerrard and Danny Murphy before naming their side for Sunday’s Worthington Cup final against Birmingham City in Cardiff.

Litmanen missed the UEFA Cup second leg with Roma with a calf problem, while Murphy (ankle) and Gerrard (groin) have been under treatment this week.

Boss Gerard Houllier will have to decide which two strikers from Emile Heskey, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Litmanen he plays, while Gary McAllister, Didier Hamann, Nick Barmby, Vladimir Smicer, Christian Ziege, Igor Biscan, plus Murphy and Gerrard, are all in competition for the midfield slots.
