FA Cup: All square at Highbury
Latest: Arsenal 1, Chelsea 1
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has levelled the scores at Highbury between Arsenal and Chelsea.
Thierry Henry had broken the deadlock through a penalty in this FA Cup fifth round tie.
Henry converted the spot-kick in the 52nd minute after Gronkjaer pushed Lauren as a cross came in from the left.
Dennis Bergkamp had the ball in Chelsea’s net after just three minutes of the all-London FA Cup fifth round tie at Highbury but referee Graham Barber rightly spotted a foul on Marcel Desailly by the Dutchman before he stabbed in a Robert Pires cross.
The match soon developed into a bristling midfield battle with Chelsea’s Gus Poyet pulled up for a bad tackle from behind on Lauren and Arsenal’s Patrick Vieira getting away with a late lunge on Dennis Wise.
Arsenal’s defensive problems with Tony Adams out through suspension and Gilles Grimandi and Martin Keown missing through injury were exposed when Igors Stepanovs failed to clear Sam Dalla Bona’s deflected through pass and Gianfranco Zola nudged the ball out wide to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Arsenal’s Ashley Cole made a superb challenge to stop Hasselbaink cashing in on the opportunity.
Thierry Henry broke menacingly for Arsenal from a Pires pass in the 10th minute but with John Terry at his shoulder he shot early from the edge of the area and Carlo Cudicini collected comfortably.
Terry was Chelsea’s saviour three minutes later when Henry back-heeled Fredrik Ljungberg’s pass into the path of Bergkamp and the Chelsea defender made a block 12 yards from goal.
Arsenal were asking most of the early questions but Henry shot well over when he had team-mates available for a pass.
When Bergkamp curled a free-kick from the left it floated over the Chelsea defenders and dropped beyond the far post from where unmarked Pires volleyed first-time but way over the top.
