Alan Sugar has won £100,000 in libel damages from the Daily Mail.

The libel action arose from a newspaper article which called Sugar "miserly" in his stewardship of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Mr Sugar said: "This journalist has hounded me throughout my time at Tottenham and this is the last straw".

He continued: "I hope newspapers start to understand their responsibilities".

He said he took the action for others whose lives had been 'destroyed' by the media and those who could not afford to take their cases to court.

The Tottenham chairman will donate the £100,000 in damages to the Great Ormond St Hospital.
