Mourinho, now of course prowling the technical area of the Manchester United dug-out, earned a reputation as one of the English game’s more flamboyant managers, his antics on the touchline earning him frequent, and vociferous, abuse from opposition supporters.

In that area, as in many others currently, Conte certainly has Mourinho beaten, as he demonstrated throughout this impressive 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Spurs — a seventh straight win for the Blues and one which returned them to the top of the Premier League after Manchester City and Liverpool had, briefly, held that position on Saturday.
