Hull hunt Steve Bruce's successor

Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, and Michael O’Neill were among the names being linked with the Hull City job after Steve Bruce resigned from the club yesterday.

Bruce, 55, has quit the club just three weeks before the start of the new season following a meeting with the club’s owners, having failed to take training yesterday morning.

Bruce, interviewed on Monday for the England job, which has been handed to Sam Allardyce, is understood to have sought assurances from chairman Assem Allam over the club’s future and player recruitment.

Midfielder Tom Huddlestone’s comments on Twitter suggest Bruce has called time on his four-year tenure at the KC Stadium. “Never good to lose a manager especially one who has signed you and done so well for the club.”

Huddlestone wrote on his Twitter account. The post was retweeted by team-mate Sam Clucas.

Former Sunderland, Wigan, and Birmingham boss Bruce led Hull to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in May. It was his second promotion to the top flight with the club, while he also led them to the FA Cup final for the first time in their history in 2014 when they lost to Arsenal. Chairman Assem Allam has been in takeover talks with two US consortiums this week.
